Anna Bondarenko is the founder and chief executive officer of Ukrainian Volunteer Service. She is also one of the creators of the national telephone befriending initiative My Phone Friend and the youth empowerment program Agents of Volunteering. Bondarenko teaches volunteer management at the state educational program Youth Worker and at the Ukrainian Catholic University in the only master’s program in non-profit management in Ukraine. She has a B.A. in legal studies from the National University Odesa Law Academy and an M.A. in non-profit management from Ukrainian Catholic University. She accepted the 2022 National Endowment for Democracy's Democracy Award on behalf of the Ukrainian Volunteer Service.
